Shame does not like himself. He feels like he does not deserve to feel good or happy. He feels bad about who he is and wants to hide and protect all his feelings from other people....and himself. Shame wants to help you learn to love who you and what you do.
Ways to Use Shame
Shame has been used more by social workers in small group in education and by therapists.
Shame can represent a feeling that feels bad but has no name, like Awful, Crabby, Whinny, or Yucky.
Use Shame for the feelings that seem to be missing or has no name.
Stuff Shame under a shirt or hide somewhere, then talk about ways to get Shame out from hiding.
Talk about the difference between shame and wholeheartedness
Write a shame story about how Shame got the way he did.
Social worker, Brene Brown, has written several books about shame that I found very useful. www.brenebrown.com
